In short
Seven manageable readings that introduce creation, trust, Jesus, prayer, love, hope, and the invitation to continue.
Day 1 — Genesis 1
Read the opening creation account. Notice repeated phrases, order, and the repeated declaration that creation is good. Ask what the chapter communicates about God as Creator and the world as his creation.
Day 2 — Psalm 23
Read the whole psalm slowly. Pay attention to the shepherd, path, valley, table, and house images. Which image is easiest for you to understand, and which one raises a question?
Day 3 — Matthew 5:1–16
Read the opening of the Sermon on the Mount. Notice who Jesus calls blessed and how the images of salt and light describe a visible way of life.
Day 4 — Matthew 6:9–34
Read Jesus’ teaching on prayer and anxiety in one sitting. Notice how prayer, daily needs, priorities, and worry are connected within the chapter.
Day 5 — John 1:1–18
Read the opening of John’s Gospel. List what the passage says about the Word, life, light, creation, and becoming God’s children. Do not rush to resolve every phrase on the first reading.
Day 6 — John 14
Read the whole chapter. Observe the disciples’ questions and Jesus’ answers. Mark every reference to peace, love, the Father, and the Holy Spirit.
Day 7 — Romans 8
Read this longer chapter in two halves if necessary. Note the movement from freedom from condemnation, through suffering and prayer, to the closing confidence in God’s love. Choose one section to reread slowly.
