Proverbs 3:5–6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Context note: Trust is described as whole-hearted reliance on the LORD while refusing to make personal understanding the final authority. It is a posture that shapes “all your ways.”
Psalm 27:1–3
The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.
Context note: The psalmist names real threats and then asks whom he should fear. Confidence here is not the absence of danger but trust in God as light, salvation, and strength.
John 14:6–7
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him.”
Context note: Jesus’ words to Thomas come during a conversation about departure, uncertainty, and knowing the Father. The statement about way, truth, and life belongs to that relational context.
John 10:27–30
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father who has given them to me is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
Context note: Jesus describes his sheep as hearing and following him and emphasizes their security in his and the Father’s hands. Faith is pictured as an ongoing relationship of hearing and following.
Romans 8:26–28
In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered. He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Context note: Romans 8 acknowledges weakness, including not knowing how to pray. Trust is not presented as always knowing what to say; the passage emphasizes the Spirit’s help and God’s purpose.
